Monasterboice Crosses
Monasterboice is an early monastic site founded by St Buithe early in the 6th century.  The site is home to Ireland's finest stone-carved high crosses depicting splendid scenes from the Old and New Testament.  There are also the remains of two churches and a round tower - one of the finest and highest tower in Ireland!

Brú na Bóine Visitor Centre
Discover the history, in this excellent exhibition, of one of the world's most important archaelogical landscapes, dominated by the spectacular prehistoric passage tombs of Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth OR experience a guided tour of the Newgrange or Knowth mounds.

Old Mellifont Abbey
Visit the impressive ruins of the first Cistercian and most important abbey in Ireland.  Founded by Saint Malachy of Armagh in 12th century it marked the introduction into Ireland of the European monastic way of life.

Hill of Slane
Once an ancient pre-Christian settlement where Saint Patrick lit the first Paschal Fire in direct defiance of the pagan kings at nearby Tara.  A wonderful panoramic view is to be had today from the hilltop where the ruins of a Franciscian Franciscian Friary and an old churchyard rest today.

Battle of Boyne Visitor Centre
(Oldbridge Estate)
The Battle of the Boyne fought between King William III and his father-in-law King James II on 1st July 1690.  At stake was the British throne, French dominance in Europe and religious power in Ireland.  The Visitors' Centre offers an informative self guided tour and audio video of the Battle of the Boyne.  A choice of walking routs around the Estate and battle site is also available.

Kells Heritage Town
Kells was once one of the great centres of Celtic Christinaity and where it is said that the famous Book of Kells was writted and illustrated.  Little remains of the early Christian settlements however a round tower can still be seen as well as theree ornate 9th century High Crosses.

Hill of Tara
The Hill of Tara rises 300 ft - the ancient inauguration site of the High Kings of Ireland;  it is an evocative place celebrated in myth and legend.  From the top of the hill there are vast panoramic views of the landscape.

Trim Castle
Built by Hugh-de-Lacy in 1173 this is the largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland.  The castle remains a strong focal point in Trim town and has been used in the epic film Braveheart which starred Mel Gibson.

Millmount Museum & Martello Tower
The museum boasts one of the finest collections of Guild & Trade Banners over 200 years old;  a 19th century recreation of an Irish Kitchen and more.........  One of the many Martello Towers thoughout Ireland built in 1808 as a precaution against French invasion.  Dominating the Dorgheda landscape, the great mound of Millmount is reputed to be the burial ground of Amergin, an early Celtic poet!

Drogheda Historical Walking Tours
Learn more about Drogheda's historical past rich in heritage and discover the sotyr of this fascinating place and its many historical ruins.  On a 1½ hour guided walking tour from the Millmount Museum you will discover the history of its medieval past and its colourful characters - past & present.

Unfortunately it would not be possible to cover all of the above on a day trip but do read them over, pick out two or three that would appeal to your group and call me to discuss a possible day trip including the sites of your choice and I will put together a draft Itinerary suggesting suitable places to eat and shop.
